Let’s be honest here. The best part of a good party is the food. I love the variety of foods that you get when people of different cultures get together. My personal favorites are the appetizers. Frequently I look for new ideas of quick easy party appetizers to put together. Below are some of my personal go-to part appetizers to make.
I made the most simple spinach dip many years ago and it is my favorite. It is so simple and is usually a big hit with people. While some like to add artichokes to make a spinach and artichoke dip. I am not a fan of the texture of artichokes so this recipe does not include them but feel free to add them.
- 16 ounces of sour cream
- 1 packet of onion soup dip mix
- 12 ounces of frozen chopped spinach (thawed and drained well)
In a mixing bowl, you will combine all ingredients well. Once combined this needs to be refrigerated for a couple of hours to let the flavors meld together. This is probably the most simple dip I have ever made that you can make fancier by added nuts or water chestnuts.
I serve this with wavy potato chips or toasted flavored chips like Ritz.
I have found that if you add the artichokes than this dip is normally served warm.
Vegetables to use
- Mini sweet peppers
- 1 Large yellow bell pepper
- 1 Pint of grape tomatoes
Wash, cut, and prepare your vegetables. Arrange them on a vegetable platter or a large serving dish. If you are preparing this ahead of time you will need to cover and refrigerate the dish so your vegetables do not wilt.
I personally think vegetables are best served with a ranch dip. You can go as simple as using a container of store-bought ranch dip, ranch dressing, or you can make your own ranch.
Simple Ranch Dip
- 16 ounces of sour cream
- 1 package of ranch dip seasoning
- Green onion for garnish if you wish
Mix these together sometime before you plan on serving. This dip gets better the longer it sits.
A vegetable platter can be as elaborate or as simple as you would like it to be. There are no limits on what you can or can not add to this. You can also use a french onion dip in the place of ranch if you would like.
Meat and Cheese Plate
Exactly as it sounds. A meat and cheese plate. This appetizer is not served with a dip usually in my house. Although some add a type of spicy or tangy mustard dip to go along with it.
- Summer sausage link
- 1 8oz block of Colby Monterey Jack cheese
- Round butter crackers
Slice the meat and cheese to the thickness you desire. Add onto a plate or serving dish and lay crackers around or to one side of the meat and cheese. While this is your very basic quick and easy meat and cheese plate you can add other meats and other types of cheese to make it what you want.
I like to make this dip a crockpot dip. Mix everything in and set it on low. This will allow for the dip to be warm whenever you are ready to serve it.
- 1lb of lean ground beef
- 1 block of Velveeta cheese
- 1 can of Rotel (regular or mild)
- 1 package of taco seasoning
- Nacho chips
- Cook ground beef and add taco seasoning to the meat.
- Combine meat mixture, Rotel, and cheese in a crockpot or slow cooker on low.
- Serve after cheese is warm and smooth.
You can choose to serve this as just the cheese and chips for the quickest version of this appetizer. If you wanted to spend a little more time on prep you can add nacho toppings on the side to serve with the cheese and chips.
Optional Nacho Toppings:
- Shredded lettuce
- Diced tomatoes
- Black olives
- Sour cream
- Diced onions
In my experience whenever I take meatballs to a get-together or party they are always a big hit. I love these because they are so tasty and are super simple to make.
- 32oz of meatballs
- 18oz of BBQ sauce
- 1/3 cup of grape jelly or jam
Put all ingredients in a slow cooker and warm until hot, stirring occasionally.
I use frozen meatballs for this recipe. You can make your own ahead of time if you wish. Also, to make this go even faster, warm the meatballs in the oven first, and then mix in the slow cooker to keep warm for serving at a later time of the day.
This appetizer is exactly the same as above except using cocktail sausages or lit’l smokies as we call them. I usually pair cheese with these. Just take a small bock (8oz) of mild cheddar cheese and slice into rectangles and place it on a dish beside your slow cooker.
Chicken salad can easily be interchanged with tuna or ham salad for this. You would prepare it the same way as you would to eat it on a sandwich and just serve with crackers or crunchy bread bites like crostini.
- 1 – 12.5oz can of chunk light chicken breast drained
- 1 boiled egg
- 2 tablespoons of dill relish
- 2 tablespoons of diced onion
- 3 tablespoons of mayonnaise. You can add more here if you would like it to be a smoother consistency
- Just a pinch of black pepper.
Mix all the ingredients together and this is ready to go. I like to serve it on a little bed of iceberg lettuce. I feel like this gives it more of a fancy look and really no extra effort.
My personal favorite crackers to be paid with each version of this dip is:
Chicken Salad – Wheat Thins
Ham Salad – Chicken flavored crackers (Chicken in a Biskit)
Tuna Salad – The crostini is my favorite here or saltines
PS – The chicken in a biskit crackers are very good with all three of these and is my favorite cracker of all time for any dips or just to snack on. They’re easily addictive once you get your hands on them. 😋
